Gros Morne is located on the west coast of the island of Newfoundland (the province of Newfoundland & Labrador).
N The Park can be broken up into the North, and South Side, and is made up of 4 major communities.
It takes approximately one hour to drive from the South to the North Side of the Park
South Side Major communities; Trout River, Woody Point
North Side Major Communities; Rocky Harbour, Norris Point
Major Attractions
Western Brook Pond Fjord – North Side
Western Brook Pond Fjord. It is one of 4 fresh water fjords in the park, and the most dramatic with 700 meter sheer granite cliffs reminiscent of Norway or New Zealand
The Tablelands – South Side
The Tablelands, the earth’s mantle. It’s one of a handful of locations on the planet which offers views of the earths mantle (normally found 10+km under your feet). The martian like landscape is powerful and unique, it’s geological and historical significance are one of the reasons Gros Morne is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site.
8 hour drive from St. John’s 4 1/2 drive to St. Anthony & L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site 3 1/2 hours drive to Port Aux Basque (and the Marine Atlantic Ferry)
Accommodations
There are lots of places to stay on the North and South Side of Gros Morne. From high end accommodations to more affordable, hotels to Air BnB to campgrounds. It may be difficult to get exactly what you want during the busy season, however there is still capacity.
