Long Range Traverse

Gros Morne National Park has 20 marked trails ranging in distance from 16km to 250 meters, from hard to easy and numerous unmarked routes including the well-known Long Range Traverse.  There is truly something for everyone

Three Most popular Short Hikes

A short half-day hike can be perfect whether your looking to squeeze another activity into your day, or taking the family along with you. The hikes below offer that perfect balance of beautiful views with accessibility

Western Brook Pond

6km return | Easy | 2- hours

The journey to the fjord, one of the most popular attractions in Gros Morne National Park.  Even if you don’t opt for the two-hour scenic boat ride through the wonderous granite cliffs provided by Bon Tours, a simple walk to the head of the pond is quite spectacular where you cross bogs, and forested costal low-lands before arriving at the jaw dropping view

Tablelands

4km return | Easy | 1 – hour

Skirting the martian-like Tablelands, a portion of exposed “mantle”, only visible at a handful of sites on the planet, enjoy the unique geology, and plant life as you make your way into Winterhouse Gorge.

Stop by Parks Canada Discovery Center to learn the story of the Tablelands; a tale of continents, and oceans destroyed and reborn, of mountain chains, thrust up, and then ground to sand.

Lobster Cove Head

2km | Easy | 1 – hour

The Lobster Cove Lighthouse set at the entrance to Rocky Harbour, highlights the picturesque coastal landscape, and serves as a reminder of the not-so-disntance past. A series of short trails lead you through thick tuckamore forests to hidden outcrops with breathing taking ocean vistas and rocky beaches.

Stop by the Parks Canada Lighthouse exhibit to step back-in-time and experience what life was like along the coast.

Three most Popular long hikes

If you’re looking for the all-encompassing, get your sweat on to reach that amazing view, these hikes are for you!

Gros Morne Mountain

17km return | Difficult | 8-10 hours

The journey to the fjord, one of the most popular attractions in Gros Morne National Park.  Even if you don’t opt for the two-hour scenic boat ride through the wonderous granite cliffs provided by Bon Tours, a simple walk to the head of the pond is quite spectacular where you cross bogs, and forested costal low-lands before arriving at the jaw dropping view

Green Gardens

9km return | Moderate to Difficult | 3-4 hours

With lush green coastal pasture, sea stacks, waterfalls, and sheer cliffs (with a climb down to a serene beach), no wonder it’s one of the most visited sites in Gros Morne. A quick tip, you start from the top and hike down, so leave a little energy for the climb out!

Lookout Trail

5km return | Moderate to Difficult | 3 hours

Its the best panorama in the park! With views of southern-arm, the Tablelands, Gros Morne Mountain, you pretty much get a birds-eye view of all of Gros Morne.  A quick tip, despite its short(er) length, it’s all up, or down, depending on which way your headed – take your time and enjoy the views!
